PUBLIC ADVISORY #2
Issued: Saturday January 27th, 2024 8:15 pm
FLOOD WARNING
Flood Warning Zone 1 – Ayr
Nith River
The previous Flood Watch and Advisory #1 issued at 4:00 pm Saturday, January 27 for North Dumfries and the community of Ayr has now been upgraded to a Flood Warning.
The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has now upgraded conditions in the Nith River to a Flood Warning. River flows are expected to reach Flood Warning Zone 1 in Ayr during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Low lying areas along the Nith River that are typically prone to spring time flooding can expect to witness water overtop river banks. In the community of Ayr, the Zone 1 area will witness floodwaters overtop the banks and encroach Tannery Street in the downtown area.
The Township will be activating the Alert Waterloo network to send out a message to residents / business that have previously registered with the municipality within the Zone 1 area of the pending flood conditions and associated Flood Warning.
Residents of the Township are encouraged to monitor the Township’s website, social media accounts and the GRCA for updates over the next 12 to 18 hours.
The public is encouraged to exercise caution around all local waterways and ponds. Banks adjacent to rivers, ponds and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are reminded to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses.
