Message from North Dumfries Fire Department
Message from North Dumfries Fire Department Regarding Burn Permits and Recreational Burns:
Burn permits are required for open burns for wood and brush. Recreational burns do not require permitsm, but all burns must adhere to the regulations set out in the burn by-law that can be viewed on our website.
These regulations are in place for the safety of all residents and if requirements cannot be complied with, then burning will not be allowed.
We currently have a high number of permit holders. Please ensure that the guidelines on your permit are followed, or charges could be laid and permits will be revoked. During this time of COVID-19, we do not want to see our firefighters called out unnecessarily and risk potential exposure to the virus. It is very difficult to maintain the physical distancing requirements when attending to calls for burn permit guidelines not being followed.
If you have submitted a burn permit, please expect up to 48 hours for processing your permit request. Permits can only be submitted online at this time. Please visit our website for a burn permit application and instructions on how to submit.
