North Dumfries Council Approves 2023 Municipal Budget
NORTH DUMFRIES COUNCIL APPROVES
2023 MUNICIPAL BUDGET
AYR, ON - Township Council at its Meeting of February 13th adopted by By-law the establishment and approval of the 2023 Municipal Budget with total spending of approximately $18 Million to fund local projects, programs and services.
The Budget results in a 5 % General Tax Rate increase. This would result in a $48.15 per year increase for Township Property Taxes based upon a residential property with an average assessment value of $372,300 in the rural area, and, $56.59 in urban Ayr.
The 2023 Budget would raise an additional $ 547,151 to support Township operations, services and programs. Within the Budget a recommended $11 Million is proposed to complete various Capital Projects including:
i) $1.58 Million for the resurfacing / reconstruction of various roads across the Township;
ii) $44,000 for extension to sidewalks and $50,000 for traffic calming measures;
iii) $670,000 for road engineering & design, including road safety measures;
iv) $910,000 for the Phase I redevelopment of the Public Works Depot;
v) $110,000 for the completion of the LED streetlight conversion program; and,
vi) $1.75 Million on improvements in Schmidt Park, Victoria Park and Branchton Park
“The Budget approved by Council for 2023 is the result of numerous hours of preparation and discussion. The Budget deals in a responsible fashion to the inflationary pressures faced by the Municipality with respect to the delivery of services and programs and simultaneously responds to the continued presence of growth and the need to look to the future in terms of Transfers to Capital Reserves and ensuring that Township roads, bridges and facilities are maintained in a state of good repair. The rate increase balances the principles of affordability and financial prudence” said Mayor Sue Foxton.
