Temporary Open Burn Ban
Posted on Friday July 03, 2020
(Ayr, ON.) Due to the hot and dry weather that is forecast with little chance of rain, the Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich are suspending open air burning. In an effort to reduce fire risk with the rapidly drying brush and grass, all open air permit burning is suspended effective Saturday, July 4, 2020 until further notice. Current permits are cancelled and no new permits will be issued until further notice. Failure to comply with the ban could result in charges and/or fee for service if the fire department is required to respond and extinguish an unauthorized burn.
Barbeques are still permitted, as well as small contained and supervised recreational campfires. At no time should a campfire be unattended and there must be extinguishing agents available at all times. If the hot and dry conditions persist, a full fire ban could be implemented to include recreational campfires.
Forecasts and conditions will be closely monitored and updates as necessary will be posted on Municipal websites and social media.
