North Dumfries Council Adopts Economic Response Plan
Ayr ON - During a special on-line Council meeting today, North Dumfries Township Council passed an Economic Response Plan which includes a series of measures to support local residents and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under North Dumfries’ Economic Response Plan, the Township will launch immediate relief actions including grace periods for penalties and interest on property tax payments. These measures, when coupled with the grace period on penalties and interest on utility payments by the Region of Waterloo, are designed to support area residents and businesses during this period of economic uncertainty.
“As we are requiring non-essential businesses to shut down operations, the Federal and Provincial Governments are establishing support programs for businesses and individuals. The Township is now doing its part as part of this broader strategy. We won’t know the full impacts of COVID-19 for some time, but we do know that it has placed tremendous stress on residents and local businesses” said Mayor Foxton. “We know people are hurting and our Economic Response Plan will help”.
The initial actions undertaken by Township Council represent a first phase. As the COVID-19 situation evolves, the Township will be considering other opportunities to support businesses and residents.
The Township is also working in partnership with the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, Waterloo Economic Development Corporation, Area Municipalities, the Region of Waterloo and other partners in the development of a wider coordinated economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
