Freer/Challenger Parkette
Location: 23 Challenger Ave, Ayr, Ontario
Parkette Size : 0.03 hectare
Park Development Objectives:
- Everyone deserves a great park
- Neighbourhood Parks – ideally an 8 minute (800 metre) service area
- Parkettes – ideally a 5 minute (500 metre) service area
- Designed to promote a neighbourhood destination / sense of place
- Promote the opportunity for healthy living, socialization and interaction
- Designed to serve all ages and all abilities
- Where possible, the location of the Parks should be combined with other community facilities to create a hub, or, to elevate and promote opportunities / synergies with other features (ie: trail head connection; adjacent natural heritage feature, etc)
- Responsive to adjacent environmental and natural heritage features, where applicable
Freer/Challenger Concept Design:
- An intermediate play structure and swings
- Modified multi-purpose court
- Shade areas and quiet seating areas
- Trail throughout the park with a future north/south trail connection
- Trees and plantings
- Grass open play area overtop Enbridge gas pipeline corridor north of the multi-purpose court

Legacy/Broos Park
Location: Intersection of Howard Marshall and Robert Woolner Drive, Ayr, Ontario
Park Size : 1.51 hectare
Park Development Objectives:
- Everyone deserves a great park
- Neighbourhood Parks – ideally an 8 minute (800 metre) service area
- Parkettes – ideally a 5 minute (500 metre) service area
- Designed to promote a neighbourhood destination / sense of place
- Promote the opportunity for healthy living, socialization and interaction
- Designed to serve all ages and all abilities
- Where possible, the location of the Parks should be combined with other community facilities to create a hub, or, to elevate and promote opportunities / synergies with other features (ie: trail head connection; adjacent natural heritage feature, etc)

Legacy/Broos Concept Design:
The concept design includes the following:
- Splash Pad
- Jr. & Intermediate play structure and 4 swings
- Unorganized play area with a ball diamond backstop (junior field unlit)
- Open grass areas for unorganized play area
- Multi-purpose court (suitable for basketball; ball hockey, etc) with water connection for winter ice use
- Seating Area with small shade cover adjacent the play structure
- “quiet” seating areas in the park
- Parks furniture (benches, receptacles, bike racks, picnic tables)
- Trail connection from the intersection of Howard Marshall / Robert Woolner into the “park”
- Trail connection picking up from the private sector built trail at the south end of the park at Leslie Davis Street and connecting into a 2nd access point from the intersection of Gourlay Farm Lane / Robert Woolner into the “park”
- Tree plantings for shade and quiet seating areas
