The Treasurer/ Director of Corporate Services is responsible for the administration of the Township's budgetary process as well as reporting annually the Township's financial activity and health.
The Township of North Dumfries begins its Municipal Budget cycle in the year prior to the budget being considered. In September each year, Council approves direction on guidelines for increases in tax rates and targets for capital reserves. A schedule is provided for Council and staff for the annual budget process which includes review of operational budgets and proposed capital projects. User fees are reviewed and updated during the annual process. The proposed budget with estimates in tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year and proposed user fee changes are provided to Committee of the Whole at the first meeting in December. The package is circulated to the public at that time, but the actual review process of the details takes place in January, at special public budget meetings.

2021 Budget |
View the 2021 Budget Book. The Township of North Dumfries 2021 municipal budget was approved by Council on January 28, 2021. The final 2021 tax rates were approved by Council in April 2021, following the Region of Waterloo adoption of Tax Policy for 2021 and the provision of the Provincial school board tax rates. |
2020 Budget |
The 2020 budget process resulted in the budget being approved on January 27, 2020. The Budget required a tax levy of $6,078,432 to cover the differences between other revenues and expenditures in the budget. The net increase of $501,340 over the 2019 levy amount resulted in a 3% increase in tax rates. An average rural residential property with assessment of $372,300 would see an increase of $26.97 annually, and an average urban property with the same assessment would have an increase of $25.96 annually, for the Township portion of the total bill. The final 2020 Tax rates were presented and approved by Council in April 2020, following the Region of Waterloo adoption of Tax Policy for 2020.
