Fire Ban in Effect
The Township of North Dumfries has suspended all open-air burning due to poor air quality as authorized by By-law No. 3542-25.
The suspension of burning includes all fires under a Burn Permit as well as recreational burning. Barbeques and other approved devices are currently excluded from these restrictions.
With high temperatures and dry conditions increasing fire risk, Fire Department officials from all four Township Fire Departments in the region are monitoring the situation closely and may implement a full, total burn ban if conditions worsen.
The North Dumfries Fire Department reminds residents that extreme heat and dry vegetation allow small sparks to quickly ignite large, uncontrollable grass or brush fires.
To protect your property, clear dead leaves and debris from around structures, keep a charged garden hose or fire extinguisher nearby during permitted cooking fires, and never discard smoking materials on the ground or out of vehicle windows.
If you spot an unattended or out of control outdoor fire call 9-1-1.
