Township of North Dumfries Celebrates the Official Reopening of Oakwoods Park
North Dumfries, ON - The Township of North Dumfries is proud to announce the official reopening of Oakwoods Park, formerly known as Browns Park, on June 5 at 4:30 p.m., following a year of significant improvements shaped through collaboration between the Township and residents of the Browns community.
The revitalization of Oakwoods Park reflects the Township's commitment to creating vibrant, accessible, and welcoming public spaces that encourage recreation, connection, and enjoyment of the natural environment.
The project was guided by community input gathered during a series of public meetings starting in June 2023. Residents were invited to discuss existing park amenities and share ideas for the future of the space. Feedback from the community helped inform the final design and ensure the park would meet the needs of residents for years to come. In addition, a dedicated committee of neighbourhood residents undertook fundraising efforts to help enhance the park's amenities, demonstrating a strong commitment to creating a vibrant community gathering space. Their contributions helped bring several of the park improvements to life and exemplify the collaborative spirit that shaped the Oakwoods Park revitalization project.
Spanning approximately 1.74 hectares (4.31 acres), including 0.77 hectares (1.92 acres) of forested area, Oakwoods Park now features several new amenities and enhancements, including:
- A new play structure
- Picnic shelter
- Pickleball court
- Half-court basketball court
- Benches located along the walking path
- Multiple armourstone seating areas throughout the park
- Shade structure near the playground
- New tree plantings
- A trail connection into the woodlot, complete with signage
These additions complement the park's existing features while enhancing opportunities for active recreation, relaxation, and appreciation of the natural surroundings.
"The reopening of Oakwoods Park is a celebration of community collaboration," said Mayor Foxton. "Residents played an important role in helping shape the vision for this park, and the result is a beautiful space that offers active recreation and quiet enjoyment of nature. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their ideas and feedback throughout the process."
The Township of North Dumfries thanks the Browns community for their participation and partnership throughout the project and invites the community to visit Oakwoods Park and experience the renewed space firsthand.
