Statement from Mayor Foxton - 2026 Municipal Election

After twenty-seven years of service to the Township of North Dumfries, the last twelve years in the role of Mayor, it is time for me to pursue new opportunities and to spend time with family. I will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming Municipal election scheduled for October 2026.

This was a difficult decision for me to make. North Dumfries means so much to me. It has been an absolute privilege and honour to serve our Community on Township Council, at the Region of Waterloo, and in meetings with representatives of the Provincial and Federal Governments.

Starting initially as a Councillor in Ward 1 and then in 2014 ascending to the role of Mayor, I can identify key milestones and events. The hosting of two International Plowing Matches, the construction and opening of the North Dumfries Community Complex and Cowan Park, the construction of the Library in Downtown Ayr and the promotion of the pop-up Library in Ward 4, the purchase of the lands in Clyde for a community park and its development as a key neighbourhood destination, and of course, the year long Ayr 200 events in 2024.

There are so many great memories, events and journeys that have been traveled during my time on Council. I have met so many wonderful people each with their own stories.

I have been blessed to work with numerous Community organizations and clubs, progressive members of Council and Staff, and of course, the residents. A shared vision of making North Dumfries a better place to live has been a constant and shared objective.

So after twenty seven action packed and amazing years of being your partner in the shaping of our Community, it is now time for me to step back from the political world.  It is time. It has been a tremendous journey that I will look back with favourable memories. Thank you for supporting me over the years and allowing me to be part of this amazing experience.
