North Dumfries Community Garden

The purpose of the North Dumfries Community Garden is to help neighbours in the community of Ayr and surrounding area create sustainable green spaces for economical gardening, food production, and education. Together we will “Grow A Healthy Community”.

The North Dumfries Garden Club and the Township of North Dumfries are working together to administer and support the use of township space for gardening at the North Dumfries Community Complex (NDCC). 

If you wish to rent a garden plot, complete the 2026 Community Garden Plot Application and Rental Agreement.  When your plot has been assigned, submit payment to the township office as directed.

Key Dates:

March 1:  Applications open to North Dumfries residents only.  Only one plot will be awarded during the month of March.  Returning renters can request additional plots to be assigned, if available, in April.  

April 1:  Applications open for all unclaimed plots and assigned on a first come basis. Restrictions on residency and number of plots are lifted.

May 17  or when the plots have been rototilled by the township or (whichever comes first):  Any planting done before rototilling will be rototilled under.

October 31: Clear all plots of any vegetation on or before this date.

Plot Maintenance and Tools Provided:

The Township will:

·      rototill the garden plots spring and fall; (no later than May 17 and no earlier than November 1)

·      fill water reservoirs as required

·      provide mulch for the gardeners to control the weeds in the paths around their plot

·      once annually, purchase soil for gardeners to add to their gardens

·      maintain a set of required tools for gardeners in the tool shed

·      ensure the water system is in good working order

Payment:

An annual, non-refundable fee is due when your application is approved and a plot assigned ($15.00 for a 10’ x 10’ plot, and $30.00 for a 10’ x 20’ plot).  Payment will be made to the Township of North Dumfries by one of the following methods:

• Cash, Cheque or Debit payment in person at the Township office, at the North Dumfries Community Complex at 2958 Greenfield Road, Ayr, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., closed from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily. 
• Cheque (not cash) in the after-hours drop box at 2958 Greenfield Road.
• Mail to 106 Earl Thompson Road, P.O. Box 1060, Ayr, ON N0B 1E0.
• E-Transfer to payments@northdumfries.ca
