Mineral Aggregate Resource Extraction

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF)

The MNRF is responsible for all licensed aggregate sites through the Aggregate Resources Act including:

  • Issuing licenses and changes to existing approvals under Aggregate Resources Act (e.g. detailed site plans, provisions, setbacks)
  • Overseeing the rules governing aggregates.
  • Inspecting and responding to complaints.
  • Enforcing compliance.
  • Ensuring rehabilitation is carried out on site in accordance with the operating license.

The Township of North Dumfries

The Township of North Dumfries is responsible for:

  • Processing zoning applications for mineral resource extraction.
  • Providing comments to the MNRF during license application process.

The Region of Waterloo is responsible for providing comments with regard to applications under both the Planning Act and Aggregate Resources Act.
